Looking at social proof as part of a larger integrated system of behavioral science: Reviews are not only social proof, but they also give people a sense of belonging and connectedness, which may drive normative behavior, as well as system 1 thinking. So there are really 4 different powerful psychological principles at play, all fueled in some capacity by reviews.
